One of nine winning hole designs selected in the Omaha World-Herald Armchair Golf Architect Contest - April 2008.
Played from the tips at 460 yards, this par 4 hole is known as “The Laces” for it’s unique bunker structure in the center of the fairway. The shape and placement of the golf hole pays dual homage to the gridiron and land management traditions of Nebraska.
The football silhouette of the fairway and green divides a field of row crops. Two “stripe” bunkers the width of the fairway above and below the “laces” complete the rendering of the football silhouette. The bunker arrangement provides an additional challenge to the shot selection for golfers.
Three tee boxes, at 380, 420 and 460 yards respectively, are established in a “pedestal” of native prairie grass. The pedestal, combined with the football silhouette of the fairway and green, is intended to be emblematic of the college football national championship Sears Trophy.
